Water Saving Tips

Here are 10 things that you can do to help save water.

Take quick showers
Limit your showers to the time it takes to soap up, wash down, and rinse off. You can save 5-10 gallons of water a day.
 

Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth
There is no need to keep water pouring down the drain. You can save 8 gallons of water a day.

Take baths
A bath in a partially filled tub uses less water than all but the shortest showers.

Make it a Full Load
Encourage your family to wait until you have a full load to run the dishwasher and the washing machine. You’ll save water!
 

Check faucets and pipes for leaks
Even the smallest drip from a worn out washer can waste 20 or more gallons of water a day.
 

Check your toilet for leaks
Put a little food coloring in your toilet tank. If the color begins to appear in the bowl, you have a leak.
 

Keep a bottle of drinking water in the refrigerator
Running tap water to cool it off for drinking is wasteful
.

Use a broom
Use a broom, not a hose, to clean decks, driveways, and sidewalks.
 

Put a nozzle on that hose.
Remember, we can’t afford to waste water.
 

Water the lawn early in the morning
Watering in the early morning hours reduces evaporation and interference from the wind. Better yet, cut out one day of watering a week!
